The Bulls escape the wrath of City

-

Melbourne City have been in hot form this season and it seems like they like scoring for fun which was a concern for Macarthur FC as they have been criticised about their defence this season.

City annihilated their rivals Melbourne Victory 7-0 last Saturday and there were concerned Bulls fans when it was time to face them.

However, the game was extremely tight and it ended in a 1-1 draw.

Bulls’ assistant coach Ivan Jolic was pleased with the outcome and the team’s performance against the table leaders.

“Really proud of the resilience and the grit the boys showed today,” he said.

“Going a goal down we conceded a few chances early on in the second half, Melbourne City do it to every one where they really come at you, but we weathered that storm to a certain degree.

“Then the belief that the boys showed and the impact that the subs had after conceding was fabulous and just looking at some of the stats we sort of finished with two or three of the best chances towards the end of the game.”

Jolic said he was aware City were going to be a difficult challenge, but he knew the team could be content with their performance.

“We can take a lot from it,” he said.

“We went down to a team that’s beaten an opponent 7-0.

“They’re flying high, they’re the clear favourites to win the league this season and I think most pundits would expect them to do so.”

However, Jolic felt it was important that the Bulls did not feel intimidated by City’s form and show they were not afraid to attack.

“We came at them tonight,” he said.

“We set out, we said we’re going to be brave, it’s our football and ultimately, I felt the boys executed tremendously well.”
