Fruitless match in the West

-

In a game littered with close-calls, HBF Park hosted an uneventful draw between Perth Glory and Macarthur FC on Saturday afternoon.

Despite an early chance from Glory, it was Macarthur who dominated the green in the opening half, with their strong offensive work keeping Glory on their toes.

Bulls striker Kokola M’Mombwa had a good chance in the 12th minute, taking a tight shot from deep down the left of the box, but it was handled by Liam Reddy.

Another chance presented itself in the 15th minute when Denis Genreau sent a rocket into an open goal, forcing Reddy to dive and parry the ball away with the tips of his fingers.

Castro created an opportunity for the home side in the 17th minute, driving the ball up the field and passing off to a wide open Bruno Fornaroli in the centre of the box, however Bulls goalkeeper Adam Federici made a sprawling save diverting the ball with his feet.

A lacklustre half ensued as both sides fought hard for the ball, each creating ineffective chances that left the game goalless at halftime.

The second 45 was much the same, but this time Glory took control.

Castro did not waste any time in exciting the crowd, launching the ball from beyond the box in the 48th minute, scraping the outer post by mere centimetres.

This trend continued for Glory as they created numerous chances for themselves from afar, seemingly afraid to penetrate deeper into the box and get in close proximity to the goal.

Late the 56th minute Castro and Fornaroli displayed their excellence, working together to bring the ball up the field clear of any opposition. Fornaroli fired at the goal from the top of the box but it hit the post, and into the path of Ikonomidis who followed through sending the ball high over the crossbar for yet another fruitless chance for the side.

The half continued to resemble that of the first, each team running the ball end-to-end, but lack of execution failing to produce a goal.

The 83rd minute saw yet another close call for Glory, Neil Kilkenny slipping the ball to Carlo Armiento who made a cross at goal, but again it fell just out of reach of Andy Keogh.

Both teams continued to hustle until the end, but neither were able to produce a goal. It left the match without a victor and marked the third consecutive draw for the Bulls.
