Re-instated crowd brings Glory to victory

Perth Glory welcomed fans back into HBF Park last night, helping them celebrate their first win in six-games.

Their last match against Melbourne City was held in a silent stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions in Perth, following a community outbreak.

Head coach Richard Garcia relished having the fans return to the stadium to back his side.

“I think that’s the fantastic part of sport having fans and have that feed onto the players and onto the game so really, really pleased to have the fans in tonight,” he said.

Glory bagged the 2-1 win over Victory in a tense match that left the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Garcia said their support helped to motivate the side and ultimately secured the victory.

“It was great to feel the atmosphere, great to feel the fans nervousness towards the end,” he said.

“The crowd support is always good, they always spur on the boys, so yeah look I think the boys controlled the game pretty well and it was great to see out the 90 minutes.”

Glory are fortunate enough to be rounding out the season with seven straight home games and Garcia believes with the fans behind them, they may just find their way into the finals.

“We’ve faced all these teams before and bar one or two I think we’ve been in positions to win those games too, it’s just about taking the confidence and knowing we can dominate those teams and actually get the results,” he said.

“That’s probably the biggest thing is that we’ve got to believe that we go forward and get the results we need.

“We’ve still got a game or two in hand and I think it’s just about gaining both the momentum and hopefully keeping people fresh and getting the best out of everyone.”
