The Bulls get the double over Victory

-

Macarthur FC wanted to make sure to get the double over Melbourne Victory and they did, after beating the side 3-1 at Campbelltown Stadium.

The side faced Victory on May 6, taking the game 20-1 and the May 15 match proved the double win opportunity for Macarthur.

It did not take long for the Bulls to open the scoring with Matt Derbyshire lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper in the 4th minute.

Jake McGing did well to gain some ground in the box, however, he took his time with the shot and it was blocked in the 12th minute.

An outstanding save from the Bulls number one Adam Federici prevented Victory from equalising in the 16th minute.

Victory made an early substitution in the 24th minute seeing Robbie Kruse limping off for Lleyton Brooks.

Charles M’Mombwa had the chance to increase the Bulls’ lead, but it was a great save from Matthew Acton as he pushed the ball against the crossbar in the 27th minute.

Victory had another great opportunity to equalise after Jake Brimmer hit the post from 25 yards out in the 30th minute.

However, the Bulls increased their lead in the 39th minute after James Meredith headed in a powerful header from a cross by McGing.

Brooks was gifted a golden opportunity by Jacob Butterfield leaving him one-on-one with the keeper at close range, but missed the target in the 43rd minute.

Victory started strong in the second-half with Rudy Gestede heading the ball on target from close range which was saved by Federici in the 49th minute.

Derbyshire was awarded the first yellow card in the game after a challenge on Leigh Broxham in the 65th minute.

It was game on when Victory scored their first of the night when Brooks’ shot hit the post and Elvis Kamsoba scored the follow up in the 78th minute.

The Bulls sealed the three points after a through ball by substitute Michael Ruhs found Derbyshire to put the ball into the back of the net in the 89th minute.
