Wasteful Victory fail to hold onto win

-

Melbourne Victory suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to Macarthur FC after wasting numerous chances in front of goal.

Despite opening the scoring at AAMI Park through an unlikely source, Elvis Kamsoba, Victory’s big names failed to put the hosts further in front.

Caretaker coach Steve Kean believed the final result was far from a fair reflection of his team’s effort.

“To be honest if we got a point, I would be disappointed. Not to get anything is incredibly disappointing because I think first half was probably the best we played in the last few four-five matches,” he said.

“The game, in all honesty, should have been finished at half-time.”

With that in mind, Kean could not specify why Victory only managed one goal from 21 shots.

“We can only put people in the right positions in front of goals. It is just that little bit of finesse in front of goal in the six-yard box to get a goal [that was missing],” he said.

“It wasn’t for the want of trying. I can’t fault the players’ effort, commitment.

“We thought we were overall better tonight than the scoreline suggests.”

Despite Callum McManaman and Marco Rojas being still out, Kean remained confident in the attacking players at his disposal.

They can repay his faith as early as Sunday, as Victory travel to play Perth Glory in hopes of finishing the season strongly.
