If A-League clubs were classic Aussie pub tunes

-

We all love a cracking open a cold one and listening to some iconic songs, so let’s find out the perfect anthem for your A-League team.

Adelaide United – Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi

‘We’ve hold on to what we got’ is the perfect motto for United.

They got off to a rough start this season but have brushed it off and pulled themselves together as a force to be reckoned with.

Brisbane Roar – Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

Apart from the name connection, Roar are slowly but surely climbing to the top in a very Rocky Balboa-esque journey that we could definitely imagine as a motivational movie montage.

Central Coast Mariners – Boys are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy

The Mariners have had a sensational comeback this season after multiple performances as the wooden spoon, they have worked hard to prove their worth and ultimately show that ‘the boys are back in town’ and ready to take it to the finals.

Macarthur FC – Mr Brightside by the Killers

The newbies certainly were looking on the Brightside when they joined the competition this season.

The Bulls have made their mark, coming in fifth on the ladder and, like the song, despite being relatively new in the scheme of things, have not disappointed.

Melbourne City – YMCA by the Village People

Heading into the finals season having lost four of their key players to Socceroos duties, City are going to be relying on their ‘young men’ to push them over the line.

Melbourne Victory – Champagne Supernova by OASIS

By all means still a classic, however it’s one that is often over-shadowed by the band’s most famous song Wonderwall, much like how City overshadows Victory.

However, much like the song we still love and belt out the chorus.

Newcastle Jets – Benny and the Jets by Elton John

This one does not require too much explanation.

Perth Glory – Run to paradise by The Choir Boys

This song parallels Glory’s performance this season.

It starts off strong and everyone loves it, but the middle it’s a bit repetitive and drops off but then ramps up again toward the end to get people going again.

Sydney FC – Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

The whole story of this song is about a girl who has the world handed to her on a silver-platter. She has got everything you could ever want but can not attain.

In the world of football this is the Sky Blues, they have got the most Premiership wins under their belt and while other teams try, they just can not beat their record.

Wellington Phoenix – Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Having spent the majority of this season in Wollongong due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Nix are singing Sweet Home Alabama as they are welcomed home to New Zealand to finish off the season on their home turf.

Western United – Highway to Hell by AC/DC

It’s safe to say Western United is well on the highway to hell, having a nine-game winless streak.

Western Sydney Wanderers – Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd

The title is pretty self-explanatory, harsh as it seems, the Wanderers are just another brick in the A-League wall. Not the greatest, not the worst, but still an honorable mention.
