If A-League teams were gaming consoles

-

Ever wondered which A-League team would resemble a gaming console most? Well today is your lucky day because we will be looking at if A-League teams were game consoles.

The consoles that each team represents will resemble a mixture of the club’s history and their performance in this season’s A-League.

The order of the list is the order of the season’s ladder.

Melbourne City – PlayStation 2

The PS2 is a favourite among many, and it is undoubtingly a powerhouse name in the video games industry.

City this season were the favourites. They became the champions and just like the PS2 was continually releasing great new titles, like The Simpsons: Hit and Run and God of War, City were frequently scoring goal after goal.

Even though the PS2 came out way before Melbourne City and the A-League was formed, this demonstrates if you want to be the best, you got to beat the best, and the PS2 is the best.

Sydney FC – Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 was competing with the PlayStation 3, however, the 360 was the better and more popular console to own at the time – being the first console to introduce crisp, clean, high-definition graphics.

The Sky Blues did not finish first this season, but they have the most premierships and more championships than any other team. So, do not forget what the Sky Blues were capable of doing, just like the 360.

It is also worth mentioning that the 360 was released in 2005, the same year Sydney won their first-ever A-League title.

Central Coast Mariners – Switch

Nintendo struggled to compete with their competitors with consoles such as the Wii and the Wii U. However, the Switch is now neck and neck with PlayStation and Xbox.

The same can be said about the Mariners. For many years, the Mariners struggled to find their form and could not compete with clubs such as City or Sydney.

However, this year the Mariners returned to what seem to be the golden years, and they were jumping back to first place on the ladder for quite some time.

Brisbane Roar – PlayStation 4

The PS4 is still a solid and reliable console that is still used worldwide with great titles, but it also has titles that were not as great which should have done better, such as Thief, Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077.

The Roar had a solid season and in many games looked very promising. However, just like the PS4, Brisbane drew and lost games they should have won, like drawing 0-0 against Newcastle Jets at home or losing to Western United 1-0.

Adelaide United – Nintendo 64

The N64 did not meet up with the expectations of its time. Still, they sure produced titles that gave the console a legendary status, such as Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Party, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – the list goes on.

The Reds made it to two A-League grand finals in the earlier years and became the first Australian team to reach the AFC Champions League final. This season they reminded Australia what they are capable of doing.

Macarthur FC – PlayStation 5

The PS5 is Sony’s latest product in video games which promises gamers to deliver a great gaming experience.

It makes sense that the PS5 resembles the Bulls because they have a lot more in common than many would imagine.

They are both new, they both wear the same colours (black and white), the Bulls have a mixture of youth players and veteran players, the PS5 can play both PS4 and PS5 games, and both have a lot of positives, but a few areas need to be improved.

Wellington Phoenix – Nintendo DS Lite

The DS Lite was a handheld console that was a must-have under every Christmas tree. It was good initially, but then it slowly died down and became inconsistent with producing titles.

A similar story for the Nix during this season. Several games made them look sharp and had potential, but their performance was inconsistent and slowly started to lose the public’s interest as the season ended.

Western Sydney Wanderers – Nintendo Wii

The Wii was a revolutionary console, but it was not Nintendo’s best one. It lacked blockbuster titles, and it struggled to compete with the likes of the PS3 and the Xbox 360, and it is only famous because of Wii Sports.

The same can be said about the Wanderers. It was huge giving Sydney its derby, but the Wanderers failed to bring in titles, being runners-up of the A-League three times.

This season, they looked very promising initially but failed to deliver and they are only famous because of winning the AFC Champions League.

Perth Glory – Nintendo GameCube

The GameCube lacked to compete with their competitors, and their appearance looked like a giant Lego block. However, it was still popular because its game titles, such as Metroid Prime, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Resident Evil and Super Mario Sunshine, made the console stand out along with its unique appearance.

The Glory also had a period of success like the GameCube, but this season they failed to deliver and compete with their rivals and also, they both wear purple.

Western United – Xbox Series X

Like the Bulls, United is the second newest team to join the A-League, making sense to compare them to the Series X.

Even though the Series X has a lot going for it, it has not been as successful as the PS5 in terms of popularity. United’s season has summed up underwhelmingly, considering they made it to the semi-finals of the previous season.

Newcastle Jets – Xbox

The original Xbox was a great console and making a name for itself with groundbreaking titles such as Halo.

The Jets have come second twice on the ladder and reaching the final twice and winning it once in 2008.

However, this season has not been the ideal end that the Jets were hoping for, and if they continue this route, they will end like the Xbox – known for the glory days but nothing else.

Melbourne Victory – Nintendo Wii U

The Wii U is regarded as one of the worst consoles ever made, even though it could become a relatively decent console.

However, unlike the Wii U, Victory did not look promising at all this season in the worst ever performance from the club.

Hopefully for the Victory fans, things will turn around because if they do not, they will quickly collect dust and be forgotten like the Wii U.
