Where is Adelaide United star Iain Ramsay now?

-

After bursting onto the A-League scene for Adelaide United in 2010, Iain Ramsay quickly developed into an exciting young winger. While his time in Australia ended in 2015, the Filipino star has enjoyed an excellent stint in Asia since his departure.

Born in Perth, Ramsay signed with Sydney FC in 2010 to begin his professional career.

He played one game with the Sky Blues before moving to NPL side, Sydney Olympic. During Ramsay’s tenure at Olympic, United recognised his potential and offered him a one year deal ahead of the 2010/11 A-League season.

However, the talented winger made 25 appearances and scored five goals across his first campaign to earn himself the Adelaide’s Rising Star Award and another two seasons with the Reds.

Throughout his three year spell with United, Ramsay quickly became a fan-favourite, scoring 11 times in 78 games.

Ramsay’s performances at United started gaining recognition around the A-League and at the end of 2013, Melbourne Heart (now Melbourne City) poached the young star.

Looking to further his career overseas, Ramsay left Melbourne and the A-League when he was released in 2015 after making 46 appearances for the side.

Even though he was born in Australia, Ramsay’s mother is of Filipino descent, which allowed him to represent the Philippines internationally while playing for the Heart.

He made his international debut in 2015 against Bahrain and is still an active member of the Filipino squad.

Shortly after his international call up, Ramsay was offered a contract by Persian Gulf Pro League team, Tractor S.C.

Despite an encouraging start at his new club, the talented winger was relieved of his duties after eight appearances with Tractor due to a lack of playing time.

Nearly a year after his release, Ramsay committed to Philippines Football League outfit Ceres-Negros in 2017 following his return from a short trial with Dutch side FC Volendam.

On March 7, 2017, the Filipino star got his career with Ceres off to a flying start when he scored one of the most impressive goals in AFC Champions League history.

Following a solid season with Ceres, Ramsay got transferred to former Malaysian club Felda United in 2018.

He scored twice in 16 appearances for the team before moving to Sukhothai FC at the beginning of the 2019 Thai League 1 season.

The Filipino speedster now plays for PT Prachuap in the Thai League 1 and has represented his club on 26 occasions since arriving in 2020.
