Adelaide United continued their FFA Cup winning form as they defeated a gallant Adelaide Olympic 1-0 at VALO Sports Centre.
United jumped out the gates fast as they dominated time of possession early. Bernardo Oliveira was proving to be an issue for Olympic’s defence as he created major chances for his teammates and himself, but poor finishing kept the game from being blown out early.
United eventually broke the deadlock in the 16th minute as defender Jacob Tratt scored his first goal for his new club, a tap in from Oliveira’s corner.
After being under heavy attack, Olympic finally turned some defence into offense with a couple chances late in the first half, but none were able to trouble James Delianov in net as the first half concluded with the Reds leading 1-0.
Olympic carried their attacking play from the later parts of the first half into the second as Delianov was tested for the first time. Despite the numerous corners and crosses delivered by Kristin Konstandopoulos and Michael Cittadini, none could find the back of the net.
Oliveira continued to be a thorn in Olympic’s defence as he dribbled his way around a few defenders to draw a penalty in the 56th minute, but Lewis Moss would not be beaten as he emphatically saved Ben Halloran’s penalty.
But from that save onwards, Moss was very busy as substitute Javi Lopez produced the shot of the day in the 66th minute but a diving Moss kept it out to keep Olympic alive.
Moss was Olympic’s best performer as he made tremendous saves all afternoon in an outstanding performance.
The Reds extend their record FFA Cup winning streak to 12 matches and move onto the quarter finals. Whilst Olympic’s cup run has come to an end in the round of 16.
