The most interesting A-League Men’s records in history

-

From most appearances to most goals, let us delve into the most attractive records that players in the A-League Men’s competition hold.

Most ALM appearances

The record for the player with the most ALM appearances is held by former New Zealand international defender Andrew Durante.

With 358 A-League appearances under his belt, Durante sits comfortably at the top of the charts for most appearances.

The defender started his ALM career at the same time the league was formed, with the Newcastle Jets.

Afterward, Durante continued his career with Wellington Phoenix and experienced a short loan with Sydney FC during that time.

During his time at Wellington, Durante became the first outfield player in the ALM to reach 250 appearances in 2016, and two years later became the all-time ALM appearance record holder with 279 appearances.

In 2019, the veteran defender moved to Western United where he bolstered his appearance record to 358 appearances and ultimately decided to hang up his boots after the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

First ALM goal

Current Adelaide United coach Carl Veart holds the honourable title of the scorer of the first-ever ALM goal.

The goal was scored in the 19th minute of the first-ever game, which saw Veart’s team Adelaide, match up against the Newcastle Jets.

Adelaide recorded their first-ever win that night and Veart’s header proved to be the difference in the ALM launch game.

What a record to own.

The all-time ALM leading goal scorer

In 236 games Besart Berisha has managed to score 142 goals.

Nobody can doubt the success that the Kosovan international has had in his time in the ALM.

In his debut ALM season in 2012, Berisha helped Brisbane Roar secure back-to-back titles. After the season’s conclusion, the forward was awarded the Golden Boot with 19 goals, the Football Media Association Player of the Year, the Players’ Player of the Year and the Members’ Player of the Year.

After a successful stint with Roar, Berisha moved to Melbourne Victory.

It was with the Victorian side in 2016 where the forward equalled Archie Thompson’s tally of 90 ALM goals.

A season later Berisha became the league’s first ever player to score 100 goals in the competition.

His goal tally continued at Western United, where he ultimately decided to move on from the ALM, finishing with the record of most goals in the league with 142 goals.
