Adelaide United let their striking do the talking and in doing so, ruined Perth Glory’s return home with a 2-1 away win on Sunday.
An early attempt from Glory’s Nick Fitzgerald was followed up by Daniel Stynes, who flicked off Adelaide United defenders to cross into Bruno Fornaroli, who couldn’t stay on his feet.
A clash between Brandon O’Neill and Juande then paused the play which allowed the sides to reset, up to the 19th minute the play had been predominately dominated by Perth Glory.
A double yellow card was issued simultaneously to Fornaroli and Lachlan Barr, who were caught in a tussle and bought each other to the ground.
United’s keeper, Joe Gauci, left Glory fans holding their breath after a sensational save on a Fornaroli strike in the box.
It was a back-and-forth game in the midfield during the first half, Perth proving to be the more dominant side, pressing hard but were unable to capitalise on the chances they had.
Hiroshi Ibusuki found a moment to shine for the Reds though as he headed them into the lead just before the break.
Adelaide took the reins in the second and a Mohammed Toure had instant impact off the bench as he snuck in a tight second goal for the Reds after deceiving Cameron Cook, who had replaced Liam Reddy in goal.
It would not be a Glory game without a late come back and a penalty in the 89th minute allowed the home side to do just that. Fornaroli closed the gap on the scoresheet after sending the ball in from the spot but it would not be enough as Perth fell to a 2-1 defeat.
