Brisbane Roar shine in second half to secure consecutive wins

-

It was last against second last in the Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar game on Saturday night which saw Roar stay afloat by securing a 4-1 win away from home.

The first chance of the game came from Glory’s Pacifique Niyongabire but the ball was delivered right into the hands of Roar’s keeper Jordan Holmes.

Brisbane were denied a goal in the 13th minute after Kai Trewin was quickly flagged offside.

A call against Callum Timmins’ tackle saw Jay O’Shea take a free-kick in the 29th minute only for the ball to fly just over the top of the net.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute after Juan Lescano bagged his third goal of the season. Lescano sent a header into the back of the net courtesy of a superb cross by O’Shea.

Brisbane had a defensive mistake dissolved in the 54th minute after Niyongabire was flagged for offside; wiping the effort of Daniel Stynes, who found the back of the net.

Ryo Wada collected a slick ball from Thomas Aldred but it was Lescano who managed to tap in a second goal in the 59th minute which gave Roar a 2-0 lead.

But, not even a free-kick could save the home side in the 77th minute after Bruno Fornaroli stepped up to the plate only for his strike to be met by Holmes.

Roar were awarded a penalty in the box after an unbalanced Darryl Lachman got feet to Jez Lofthouse. O’Shea took the penalty and left Brad Jones with no chance; the Irishman’s strike essentially securing Brisbane three points as he made it 3-0 with 10 minutes left.

Brisbane did not stop there though as their second-half sub, Luke Ivanovic, glided through Glory’s defence to find the back of the net in the 88th minute.

Stynes continued his attempts at goal and eventually sent in a volley in the 92nd minute to close the margin to 4-1.

Right before the whistle was blown for full time, Glory’s Mitchell Oxborrow received a red card following a foul against Rahmat Akbari.

The visitors proved the dominant side and left Perth with three points in a 4-1 thrashing.
