Adelaide United snap four-game winless streak

-

Adelaide United have claimed a much-needed three points in a 1-0 win over Macarthur on Friday night.

In Adelaide’s biggest game of the season, their biggest stars stood up as Craig Goodwin, Lachlan Brook and Hiroshi Ibusuki got the job done.

The first half started off exactly how the Bulls would have drawn it up as they seamlessly transitioned from defending to attacking.

Macarthur continued to have all the ball and created major chances, with none bigger than Jake Hollman’s shot that sailed wide from Ulises Dávila’s delightful pass.

The Bulls were dominating as United were staring down another home defeat, but Macarthur could not find the back of the net.

United managed to regain some of the possession in the later stages of the first half, as Brook caused headaches up and down the right side of the pitch.

Eventually United’s counter-attacking football paid off, as Goodwin lofted in a peach of a cross to find Ibusuki’s head on the last play of the half to put the Reds ahead.

The second half then started off exactly how Carl Veart would have hoped as the Reds had complete control of the game.

Goodwin and Brook continued to show no mercy despite holding a 1-0 lead as they piled attack after attack onto the Bulls defence.

Macarthur had their own counter-attacking moments from Davilla, but none were able to trouble Joe Gauci.

United prevail in a must-win game to move into fourth spot with 31 points, whilst the Bulls drop into fifth with 29 points and a game to play over United.
