Perth Glory avoid defeat in final farewell to Andy Keogh

Perth Glory reluctantly split even with Western Sydney Wanderers in a heated 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

But the evening was reserved for appearance veteran Andy Keogh who played his 156th, and final game, before retirement.

At the outset, it was a different Glory as the home side welcomed back skipper Bruno Fornaroli along with Daniel Sturridge, who featured in the starting line-up for the first time.

Wanderers opened the game favouring the right wing and pressed early against Glory’s defence all while attempting shots towards a full capacity Shed-end.

Glory had their first goal scratched from the scoreboard following a controversial decision from VAR to support an offside call issued in the 12th minute.

But only five minutes later, another offside flag was overruled by VAR review and Glory had redemption. It was all business from Fornaroli who scored at the tightest of angles to give Glory a 1-0 lead.

With roughly five minutes of the half left of play, Alessandro Lopane sent Glory fans to the edge of their seats after his curled ball from inside the box was met with the hands of Liam Reddy.

Wanderers were stuck in a wash cycle of missed chances until Keijiro Ogawa’s strike flew past Reddy in the 79th minute to level the scoring at 1-1.

The final moments closely avoided a fist fight after three players went into the book following Keanu Baccus’ blatant foul on Joshua Anasmo.
