Brisbane Roar were humbled on Saturday afternoon 4-1 by a clinical Sydney FC outfit who have now compiled five consecutive A-League Women victories.

The result sees the Sky Blues ascend to equal first on total points with Melbourne City.

Sydney treated A.J. Kelly Park like a training drill for much of the contest, scoring all four goals in the opening hour before Brisbane produced a consolation prize through Ashley Norrie.

A 4-1 performance was enough to please Sydney FC head coach Ante Juric, whose side defeated the same opposition 4-0 only three weeks prior.

“A couple of weeks ago I thought we were way off the pace. I told the girls and they responded,” Juric said post-game.

Being off the pace and still recording five wins in a row typifies the high standards held by the reigning ALW premiers.

Continuity and consistency is developing nicely for Sydney’s stars after their sixth game of the season.

Princess Ibini dazzled with her individual brilliance to open the account, while Madison Haley also hit the back of the net upon return.

The potent forward combination is yet another exciting element for a Sky Blues team with very few things going wrong in 2022/23.

“They are quite creative which is why they get each other and are a bit telepathic,” head coach Juric said.

“They are both positive, strong and direct. They were excellent today.”

Consistently strong performances from their forward stars, backs and midfielders alike, has put the side’s title defence in a rock solid standing thus far.

Sydney FC twist the dagger when they smell blood and are therefore a team that will inspire fear amongst any opposition. Just ask Brisbane.
