Best football kit bags for 2024

-

At the start of the football season I used to bring out the same soccer bag I’ve had for years. It had the logo for a team I no longer played for, the zipper was broken, and the team manager had written a number on it in permanent marker to show it was mine.

So for the start of last season I decided to find a football kit bag that would at least be new. What I found was an insane number of bags on offer for my football gear.

After trawling the internet for the best football bags, here are a few main features that, for me, I found important to look for:

  1. Size – You want it to be big enough to fit your gear, ideally a football, but not too big that it’s annoying to carry. Generally this is measured by capacity in litres (L) or dimensions WxLxD in centimetres (cm). Somewhere between 30 and 50 is the sweet spot.
  2. Compartments – Shinnys, socks, tape, boots, kit, mobile, keys… Ideally I like to make sure these have dedicated spots in the bag, otherwise I find myself losing my keys when I get back to my car. Just me? The big ticket item in this feature is the spot for your football boots.
  3. Convertable backpack – This is kind of the holy grail of football kit bag features. Personally I ride a motorbike so transforming my soccer bag to a backpack means I don’t have to stick my arms through the duffle bag handles. The struggle was real. This feature is also great for kids who have football after school – chuck everything in one bag and send them on their way to the bus stop.
  4. Brand – This is personal preference, and matters to some more than others. I’m not particularly partial to any of the major sports brands. My wardrobe is a spattered collection of ticks, stripes and black tigers. So this one is totally on you to decide what works for you.
  5. Waterproof – Some bags have material that will soak through when they’re sat on the sidelines for a dewy evening training session. So ideally a level of water resistance or waterproof will get you through those cold and rainy winter months.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a passionate amateur, having the right gear is essential for peak performance.

When I took the plunge and bought a new football bag it truly made my football experience better. I have a ball pump that sits in it’s own pocket should I ever call on it. My dirty gear I put in a special dry section. I don’t lose my keys because they live in a mesh zipper pocket where I can see them. Cool, right?!

The right bag can make a world of difference in your own soccer experience, whether you’re heading to training, a match, or commuting between the two. Good luck with your purchase!
