Wellington
After a reasonable start to the season, the Phoenix have now tailed off into ambiguity leaving them outside of the top six. Not helped by a very direct playing style their away form has been dreadful, with only their home form keeping them in the race.
Having only kept two clean sheets this season, their defence has been poor, and Jade North’s concerns of Brisbane putting plenty of goals against them has merit. They will have to work extremely hard and rely on luck and bad Brisbane finishing to continue their 24 match unbeaten run at the Cake-tin.
Brisbane
Despite playing the best style of football the A-League has ever seen, the Roar have not been getting the results their performances deserve, yet still they can temporarily top the table with victory in the Shaky Isles.
With one of the best defences and ‘keeper’s in the national competition, Brisbane need to finish the chances they are creating (to state the obvious). As ostracised as Reinaldo is, the truth is his off the ball play and line running is immaculate, creating many chances for both himself and his teammates. Unfortunately for Brisbane fans, however, his lack of composure in front of goal must have the coaching staff hoping for exciting prospect Jean Carlos Solorzano to reach full match fitness as soon as possible.
Key Men
Matt McKay: The middle man for the Roar has been consistently getting himself in to great scoring chances but having only scored the single goal this season needs to start putting his opportunities away.
Jade North: Back in the starting side for the first time since his impressive display for the Socceroos, his presence and leadership will be needed by the struggling Wellington backline to keep the Roar at bay.
Betting
According to Betfair, Wellington are slight favourites at 2.64, with Brisbane not too far off at 2.80. Phoenix’s ominous home record is obviously thought to be a major stumbling block for the Queenslanders it seems. The draw sits at 3.60.
