WA ‘All Flags’ State League: Round Seven

-

Perth SC continued their good run of form after a 1-0 victory over ECU Joondalup at BGC Stadium. A goal from Jason Dos Santos just 40 seconds after half-time proved to be enough. Dos Santos rounded Andy Banks in the ECU goal after an inch-perfect through ball from Antonio Naglieri. ECU pressed for an equalizer late in the game but Perth managed to keep their clean sheet. Things came to a head for ECU in injury-time, with skipper Dale McCulloch shown a red card for a challenge on Nicolas Tatasciore. The victory sees Perth move into the top three for the first time this season.

Balcatta continued their rampage through the All Flags State League this season, thumping Inglewood United 4-1 at Grindleford Reserve. Doubles from Mo Atak and Ashley Rosindale did the business for them. United took the lead in the 18th minute through Paul Dugdale. Atak equalized in the 32nd minute, before Rosindale gave Balcatta the lead in the 39th minute. The duo repeated the trick in the second half, Atak scoring his second in the 75th and Rosindale securing his brace in the 79th. It means Balcatta have scroed 21 goals from their opening seven games this season.

Mandurah City and Bayswater City played out a 1-1 draw at Hyundai Stadium. Unfortunately, some reports and updates could not be provided. Bayswater scored through Cisco Jorquera. Mandurah’s scorer is unconfirmed. The draw doesn’t do much to benefit for both sides, who are currently struggling in the mid and bottom parts of the table after losing streaks.

Western Knights remain the only undefeated side in the competition after thrashing Cockburn City 4-1 at Nash Field. A double from veteran Stuart Montgomery was the catalyst for his side’s win. Montgomery opened the scoring in the second minute with what could be the goal of the season. Montgomery sent a looping volley from just inside the Cockburn half over the top of stranded keeper Dejan Aleksic. Johny Mirco equalised for Cockburn in the eigth minute of the game. Goals from Montgomery, Glen Thomas and Paul Cooke ensured the Knights’ victory.

Sorrento and Stirling Lions played out a hard-fought encounter at Percy Doyle Reserve. In an epic struggle to gain dominance, it took until the 86th minute before a goal was scored. Fortunately for Sorrento, Todd Harnwell broke the deadlock with a low shot across Corey Hugo to secure the points for Sorrento. Striling had claims for a penalty waved away in stoppage time after it appeared Jamie Harnwell handed the ball. It was a crucial three points for the Gulls who halted Stirling’s recent momentum.

Floreat Athena defeated the NTC on Friday night at Litis Stadium. Goals from Callum O’Connell and Phil Arnold in each half ensured the victory. NTC games are not contested for points and therefore their results are not tabulated.
