5 reasons to get excited for the season ahead

-

Well blimey, we’re excited for the Hyundai A-League this year. We’ve polished our boots in anticipation of all the football we’ll play out in the backyard, pretending to be Del Piero or Flores.

Ok maybe not. But we at The Football Sack are buzzing. A quick poll on our staff Facebook page (its a private group, but write us an article, get it published and we’ll be sure to add you) reveals we are excited little smart alecks.

Are you as pumped as we are for season eight? If not, here’s five reasons you should be.

1. Alessandro has already sold more Sydney FC shirts than Beckham.
Saying that, Becks probably shifted a lot of Sky Blues merch when he played over at Homebush that one time. Regardless, at the Sydney FC Fan Day last week Del Piero lettered Sydney FC strips were already making appearances in the stands and at $160 a pop perhaps they’ll become one of the few clubs to break even this year.

2. Ange Postecoglou will have Victory playing attractive football.
Plus Archie Thompson is currently in fine form for the Socceroos and that confidence will filter through to his club football. Ange has promised entertainment and Victory fans will appreciate that regardless of results – the membership culture in Melbourne will keep crowds high. It also sounds as if Muscat is finally no longer pulling the strings behind the scenes, which can only be positive.

3. There hasn’t been a scandal.. in a while.
What’s that? We’ve only been receiving positive news headlines for a couple of weeks? Don’t make me.. oh you’re not joking? Wow, sign me up!
All signs are pointing to Aussie families flocking to the A-League this year. And for good reason – there’s only a slight risk of their children being injured in a brawl. No, make that a riot.

4. Flores. Broich. Del Someone.
Your typical Australian sporting type might not know who these superstars are (especially that last fella) but something is sure to be lit up this season, and we’re sure as hell hoping its going to be the stadiums. Easy now, Wanderers fans.. we meant metaphorically.

5. The Football Sack have the A-League covered, with instant match reports, live Twitter commentary of every game, and an award winning podcast returning twice weekly.
Yes yes, a shameless plug at the end. But we’re serious in our belief that The Football Sack is your ultimate tool for Australian football content this summer. And spring. And the other seasons, of which we forget.
