Jets share points with Adelaide at Hunter

-

Adelaide United shared the points in a less than exhilarating game with Newcastle Jets which ended in a nil-all draw.

Jason Hoffman and Ben Kantarovski will miss out on football next week, both players receiving yellow cards to force a suspension and leave the Jets playing stocks even lower.

A freekick in the 19th minute gave Adelaide their closest taste to the back of the net in the first half as Marcelo Carrusca hit a powerful strike only to have it rebound off the crossbar.

Mateo Poljak hit woodwork from a header in the 39th minute but an unlucky rebound saw him kick the ball out of bounds.

Mark Birighitti made some excellent saves in the first half, continuously denying the attacking finesse of Adelaide United as they put strike after strike toward the goal.

Adelaide surely dominated in attack but a steady Newcastle defence kept them scoreless before the break while the chances created by the Jets lacked the creativity and finish to get them on the board.

The frustration was clear in the second half as every attempt seemed to be squandered whether it be by poor decisions, strong defence or inability to finish.

Braedyn Crowley came on in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact, aiming an impressive cross towards Milos Trifunovic who failed again to hit the back of the net.

Bruce Djite came off the bench in the 72nd minute in place of Pablo Sanchez and was quick to get to work.

The dramatic and extravagant antics of Djite left Adelaide with a perfect set up for a goal in the 78th minute with a very controversial freekick right outside the box.

Carrusca managed to hit the crossbar for the second time as a beautiful free kick hits the post and the game remains scoreless.

David Carney once again proved why experience is important, setting up some brilliant chances but couldn’t seem to find the target and take the lead.

Ultimately though the Newcastle defense was in overdrive to keep the creative and opportunistic Adelaide scoreless this round to share points.

Nil all the final score at Hunter Stadium.
