Sydney’s 3-1 defeat away at Brisbane Roar on Thursday opens the door for Perth to swoop down and grab sixth spot in the Hyundai A-League this weekend, but they will be pushed all the way by an Adelaide United team already in the playoffs.
Perth currently sit one point off Sydney in seventh place and fans in the A-League betting world are expecting a huge showdown at the nib Stadium as Adelaide fight to find form ahead of the Finals Series.
A record 18,000-strong crowd is expected on Saturday to roar Perth to victory and fans in the betting world are already gearing up for goals this weekend.
Perth have enough in them to beat United but are bound to concede themselves on Saturday. They have won four of their last six games to give them a chance of making the top six but in each victory have let in at least one goal.
Indeed, the Glory haven’t won a match by two or more goals since a 3-0 result over the Newcastle Jets in December, meaning Australian online betting fans should expect a close encounter against an out-of-form United side.
With start striker Travis Dodd out of action with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, goalscoring responsibilities will fall on Shane Smeltz and the young Chris Harold, while any contribution from Ryo Nagai will be gratefully received.
Make no mistake, Dodd’s absence means a win on Saturday night will be tough to eke out but with Perth in good spirits of late they will take their chance.
Although fans should not back them to cause any sort of upset in the Finals Series next month, at least Perth can say they got there – a positive finish to a rollercoaster season.
