The Dugout: Fourth Edition

-

Digging up all the action from the Hyundai A-League in the week that was.

Dugout

These two teams are a bit of alright

  • Western Sydney Wanderers: Wanderers are finally getting the points they deserve after a rocky start to the season and last round’s win against Phoenix was another step toward the top spot.
  • Melbourne Victory: With a 2-1 win over Mariners, Victory are settling in nicely at second place and are proving why they are the reigning champions.

Playa’ can play

Mark Birighitti is showing his talent game after game for the Newcastle Jets. With one impressive save after another, he’s in fine form leading the league in saves with 26 so far.

Brisbane Roar have maintained their position, leading the ladder on fourteen points, while Victory and Wanderers are battling it out for second. Sydney sit closely behind and Jets are on their tails in fifth spot. Wellington sit at sixth and Melbourne have been sliding down to seventh, while Mariners, Glory and Adelaide are all making it clear that they’re comfortable sitting at the bottom.

Get this fact into you

Sydney have managed to keep five clean sheets this season, while Mariners and Melbourne City haven’t been able to keep one.

Where it’s at

Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar is the game of the week this round. Brisbane are looking fierce at the top, but Jets have shown they have the potential to beat anyone. Will Jets kick back into form or will Roar reign supreme?

Dude is a young gun:

Keep your eyes on Stefan Mauk this round. The youngster has two goals to his name this season and is looking very dangerous, winning 80 percent of tackles and winning fouls left, right and centre.

Great expectations for the weekend:

Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United: While this seems to be a no brainer, Adelaide are going to have to win sometime. Sitting at the bottom of the table United desperately need a win, but it will be a shock if they defeat the reigning champs.

Central Coast Mariners v Western Sydney Wanderers: Wanderers are having an impressive streak with four wins in a row now, yet Mariners have only had one win all season. Will Mariners be able to put a stop to the Wanderers winning streak?
