Another weekend of Aussie football is done and dusted, and after some brilliant matches and a couple of strange results, it’s time for a social media roundup.
The biggest game of the weekend was always shaping up to be the Melbourne Derby and on a scorching Saturday in Melbourne both teams duly delivered. Goals from Stefan Mauk and Paulo Retre put City firmly in control after half an hour, before Besart Berisha struck on the cusp of half-time to bring Victory back in.
City fans everywhere rejoiced (peacefully of course) although some may have been getting a little ahead of themselves…
Much of social media’s major attention throughout focused on one complete degenerate who insisted on lighting a flare, on a day of TOTAL FIRE BAN. According to users though, he was immediately singled out by officials and ejected from AAMI Park, although suggestions on where to go from there differed.
person who ripped the flare during a fire ban singled out & ejected. well done AAMI Park security, now throw them in the sea. #MelbDerby — Dale Roots (@dale_roots) December 19, 2015
While pundits struggled to come to terms with their new-found feelings.
Sentences I thought I’d Never Write In My Lifetime: City are a joy to watch. #MelbDerby

One Brisbane fan was initially grateful for the relegation of Dimitri Petratos to the bench, however he was quick to change his tack once the 23-year old curled home the eventual winner for Roar. Everyone loves an edit button on social media…
The general story of the game though was the continued downturn in form for the Mariners, and their struggles in getting results out of matches in which they arguably have the better opportunities for the 90 minutes.
Weird game after all that. Brissy with more poss, CCM had the opportunities but Brissy get the points. It gets bad to worse for CCM #CCMvBRI

Perth fans at the end of a tough run of games were in high spirits with the results of said matches, having done very well against Sydney, Melbourne Victory and Wanderers.
If you’d told me a week ago Perth would get 7 points from those three games I’d curse you out then steal your time machine #PERvWSW — Eamonn (@eamonnwarner) December 19, 2015
Wanderers fans were not overly impressed by Andre Redmayne’s concession of a penalty, and simple comments indicated it well.
Some on social media refused to believe officially released crowd figures, instead citing their own tried & tested sysem…
Remember kids, how to get official crowd figures at Glory games: 1. Estimate crowd 2. Round up to next 1000 3. Double that number #PERvWSW
