A big past week of Australian football has seen a former Liverpool legend sign for the Central Coast Mariners, another Sydney Derby come and go, and at least one controversial dodging of A-League rules.
However, this week the Peanut Gallery is going to focus on the former two, and the inevitable social media tsunami’s that they both caused.
Before we begin, a moment to congratulate the extraordinary Melbourne City W-League side, on completing a perfect season with 12 wins from 12 matches.
Congrats to Joe and the team on raising the bar this season. Other clubs need to respond to the challenge to keep up https://t.co/EwrGze0JwP

And a look ahead to the fantastic W-League finals matchup this coming weekend:

Now, onto some guy who’s five foot seven. Apparently he drinks Sangria, and left Barca for Liverpool? Anyway, word is that he signed for Central Coast Mariners, and the signing instantly caused a stir amongst not only Mariners fans, but all A-League fans. As with anything in this competition, the response was far from one-sided however.
Does Luis Garcia realise who the Mariners are? #progressive? pic.twitter.com/iMAUECAkVN

Undoubtedly though, the signing of Luis Garcia has big potential to invigorate the league, in particular the Mariners and help put bums on seats for the second half of this season. Elsewhere on the weekend there was the small matter of a Sydney Derby taking place between Sydney FC & Western Sydney Wanderers. Social media’s collective discourse ranged from Sydney’s outrageous defensive tactics that were so caveman-like that they won the game, all the way through to the gentleman behind the Wanderer’s social media accounts.
Horrible sore loser tweet. #SydneyDerby https://t.co/orTmJ0qjOE
