The Dugout: Round 22 of the A-League

Digging up all the action from the Hyundai A-League in the week that was.

Dugout

These two teams are a bit of alright:

Adelaide United: Adelaide pulled a big win over Brisbane Roar to overtake them on the ladder this round and take a big step toward securing a place in the finals.

Wellington Phoenix: Wellington had an impressive win over Melbourne City and while it doesn’t put them in finals contention, it was great to see them finally perform.

Playa’ can play

Nigel Boogaard was essential to the Jets derby win last round, organising his defence to keep the Mariners at bay to secure a crucial three points.

The fight for finals is getting tighter despite only one change on the ladder this week. Adelaide have overtaken Brisbane to secure second place while Newcastle are four points behind sixth place Sydney and Perth only trail Sydney by two. Victory are only in front of Sydney on goal difference and Melbourne City are only two points ahead in fourth.

Get this fact into you

Mariners still haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet this season while Adelaide has put it’s defence on display with nine clean sheets.

Where it’s at

There are some important games this round but Perth and Newcastle battling it out in their final attempts to crawl into the top six is a must-see. Newcastle are looking like a new side as they put their new signings to good use and Perth are looking the best they have all season.

Dude is a young gun

21-year-old Steven Ugarkovic scored his first A-League goal last round against Mariners adding to an impressive entry to the league showcasing some quality football.

Great expectations for the weekend

Brisbane Roar v Western Sydney Wanderers:

These two will be battling it out with potential for a win to put either team on top of the ladder. Will Roar be able to step back into form and put a stop to the Wanderers?

Wellington Phoenix v Adelaide United: Adelaide are a solid 14 points ahead of Wellington and are the clear favourites to win, and with more at stake they could be fired up for the win. Will an inconsistent Phoenix be able to keep the Reds at bay?

Melbourne City v Sydney FC: City and Sydney will both be fighting for crucial points to secure their future this season. With a tight race to stay in the top six who will come out on top?

Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne Victory: Victory have a lot on the line while Mariners have said goodbye to their season. Will Victory take an easy win to stay ahead?
