The Dugout: Round 23 of the A-League

-

Digging up all the action from the Hyundai A-League in the week that was.

Dugout

These two teams are a bit of alright:

Adelaide United secured a huge 4-0 win over Phoenix to prove their worth and secure the top spot for another week.

Melbourne City‘s 3-0 win over Sydney was crucial not only in keeping them safely in the top six but also in pushing Sydney out.

Playa’ can play

Dylan McGowan was a defensive powerhouse for Adelaide last week, even scoring an early goal to cement his impressive performance.

Snakes and ladders

The ladder is tightening coming into finals and although there weren’t many changes this round there is still room for some big changes. Adelaide take the top spot over Wanderers with 39 and 38 points respectively. Brisbane, City and Victory have stayed stable in third, fourth and fifth with 38, 35 and 33 points. Perth have taken sixth place with 31 points, knocking Sydney down to seventh only one point behind. It will take a near miracle for Newcastle to climb back up from their eighth place seat as they trail four points behind Sydney. Wellington and Mariners have said their farewells to this season as they linger at the bottom with 22 and 12 points.

Sydney FC have the lowest goal conversion rate with only 13% of shots finding the net.

Where it’s at

We’re all eager to see how Sydney FC’s season pans out, so their game against Wellington Phoenix is a must-see. They’re desperately chasing a crucial three points to put them back in the top six.

Dude is a young gun

22-year-old Jai Ingham has proved very handy in the Victory line-up, getting the assist in both goals against Mariners. Ingham is definitely one to keep you eye on in coming seasons.

Great expectations for the weekend

Adelaide United v Melbourne City: Will Adelaide come out in the top spot or will City add some extra points to their campaign?
Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory:  Will Roar kick back into gear and make a move up the ladder or will Victory take some crucial points to stay in the top six?
Perth Glory v Central Coast Mariners: Perth have been clinical in their attack, making a big comeback into the top six while Mariners still sit in last place with only 12 points. Will Mariners shock us all or will Perth take an easy win at home?
Newcastle Jets v Western Sydney Wanderers: Newcastle missed an important win last week against Glory, will they be able to take another shot at climbing up the ladder or will Wanderers put a final stop to their season?
