W-League | Canberra vs. Adelaide: three things to look forward to

-

Canberra United will look to bounce back after suffering an embarrassing 6-1 loss at the hands of Sydney FC when they take on Adelaide United this Saturday.

With the Lady Reds well and truly stuck to the bottom of the ladder, could this be the perfect opportunity for Canberra to get back on track or is an upset looming at McKellar Park?

1) Lisa De Vanna’s home debut

Tuesday’s match saw guest signing Lisa De Vanna rack up her first minutes in a United shirt, coming on in the 59th minute. Unfortunately for Canberra it didn’t turn things around with De Vanna only managing one shot during her half hour of play. When taking into consideration this was her first taste of action in months, the numbers don’t look so bad. But you can bet De Vanna will be hungry for more come Saturday.

Assuming she makes an appearance, it will also be her first game at McKellar in green and it’s on these type of important milestones that she loves to make a statement.

2) Chance for an upset?

Despite being rooted to the bottom of the table Adelaide travel to the nation’s capital in good spirits having drawn with defending champions Melbourne City in their last outing.

Furthermore, an exciting 2-all draw with Canberra in the reverse fixture in Adelaide will give the Lady Reds confidence they can do the job. Striker Adriana Jones looms as the danger player with four goals to her name so far this season.

3) Home, sweet home

Much has been made of Canberra’s recent run of fixtures. Four away matches combined with a “home” match in Gosford means the team hasn’t played at McKellar since November 26. Despite this perceived disadvantage, United played some of the competition’s best football before their last outing proved a bridge too far. No doubt the team will be itching to get back to playing in front of their own fans.

Canberra United will welcome Adelaide United to McKellar Park, with the match getting underway at 6pm.
