Captain Keogh helps Perth remain unbeaten in victory over Adelaide United

-

Goals from Andy Keogh and Chris Ikonomidis were enough to see off Adelaide United and have Perth Glory move into top-spot and maintain their unbeaten record for another week.

The win extends Perth’s record of scoring in their past 15 A-League games which was rivaling their club record 18 games between December 2015 and April 2016.

Joel Chianese took the game forward in the 11th minute as he was played through by a wonderful lofted through-ball by Keogh only to hammer the resulting shot against the upright.

By the 25th minute, Chianese seemed to be the cause of all offensive movement for Perth, as he cut inside Scott Galloway before lashing across a low-cross to Keogh.

Keogh having broken free of any defender turned on the volley and blazed the ball high into the Pickard Stand, missing a golden opportunity for Tony Popovic’s men to go ahead.

The game looked certain for a draw until Neil Kilkenny’s corner found Alex Grant in the box who forced a good save from Paul Izzo.

The save counted for nothing as barely seconds later Keogh, using all his strength and nous, battled through a goal-mouth scramble to tap home the winner.

The goal was reward for a strong few minutes for Perth, who almost repeated the dose again as Andy Keogh found space only minutes later amongst a lapsed Adelaide defence, only to be denied by a magnificent Paul Izzo save.

Perth continued to press a struggling United and managed to get reward in the 90th minute as Chris Ikonomidis played substitute Fabio Ferreira through before Ferreira returned the pass for Ikonomidis to score into an empty net and secure the points for Perth.
