Ivanovic and Redmayne steal the show against Melbourne City

-

Sydney FC have secured the three points against Melbourne City thanks to an early strike from youngster Luke Ivanovic and a crucial save from goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne.

Ivanovic’s first start in the A-League was only sweetened by his maiden goal, giving his side the 1-0 advantage within the first 10 minutes. The striker side-footed the ball into the back of the net after a pin-point pass from Milos Ninkovic which split Melbourne City’s defence. Sydney FC’s head coach Steve Corica said he was pleased about Ivanovic scoring on his starting debut.

“He’s a young boy, he gave it everything for the 30 minutes he was on, he was very excited with his first start, and he scored a great goal which was important for us.

“I thought he did a great job last week and I wanted to reward him for that. He took his goal very well, it was great.

Corica was equally as pleased with Andrew Redmayne at the opposite end of the field. Sydney FC were up 1-0 with just over 10 minutes of regulation time remaining when referee Jarred Gillett called for a penalty in the box for a foul on Bart Schenkeveld. Riley McGree took to the spot, but his powerful strike was saved by Redmayne at the most crucial moment in the game.

“We kept a clean sheet thanks to Redders. He’s come up trumps again, I think that’s three out of four he’s saved here. That’s what you need your keepers for, he did a great job, another a great performance by him.

“It’s important that he makes these saves, that obviously helped us win the game today because it was one nil at the time, and he pulled off a great save.

Adam Le Fondre put the game to bed with five minutes to go, securing the win after slotting home Sydney’s second goal of the evening.

At the end of the day, it was an early goal from the young striker Ivanovic and a critical save from Redmayne which won Sydney the three points.
