Fitness a big aspect in City’s win: Milicic

-

Melbourne City’s match fitness was a big factor in their win over Macarthur FC, according to Bulls coach Ante Millicic.

City moved to outright second from the win, with their speed and repeat efforts evident in creating turnovers that led to strong attacks.

Milicic believes his team could not match City on their level, describing them as the form team of the competition at the moment.

“The desire of their players to get on the end of things, and get in the box; we just couldn’t match it tonight unfortunately,” Milicic said.

“Physically they’re on a different level to us.”

Macarthur are in their first A-League season and are expecting their facilities to improve over the coming years, while City are known to have some of the best resources in the league.

“They’ve got fantastic facilities and resources, and they run a great program over there, but we’rey nowhere near that level,” Milicic said.

“[City are] confident … playing at home, we just came against a side that’s on top of their game.”

However, Milicic does expect improvement, and said he knew his team was not match fit yet.

“For the majority of our players their last football was pre-covid… it’s taken us time to get to that match fitness,” Milicic said.

City coach Patrick Kisnorbo appreciated the way his team was coming along physically into the back half of the season.

‘It’s the way we want to do things around here (be fitter than other teams),” Kisnorbo said.

“There’s certain demands in our team that the group have set and that I want too.”
