Just like all A-League clubs, potato chip flavours have their own unique personalities. As such, we have compiled a list to finally establish what flavour represents each of our clubs.
Understandably, this might not be something you needed or wanted to know until today, but this piece is sure to provide quality food for thought.
Sydney FC – Salt and vinegar
Salt and vinegar flavour is either hated or loved, there is no in-between. The same can be said about Sydney FC which boasts one of the biggest fan-bases and active support groups.
Yet, those who do not support Sydney love nothing more than seeing them lose. This is a match made in heaven.
Melbourne Victory – Chicken
Traditionally one of the most iconic flavours loved by many over the years. Yet, it is no longer the most sought-after flavour due to the introduction of newer and more exciting options. Now many see it as being too bland.
The same can be said about Melbourne Victory. The biggest and once most successful club in the A-League now sit near the bottom for the second year running.
Brisbane Roar – Barbecue
Orange! On the surface, both, the Roar and barbecue flavour share the same colour.
Additionally, just like the chip, Brisbane Roar are one of the more established, successful, and overall prominent A-League teams.
Wellington Phoenix – Honey soy chicken
A very good flavour while being far from the best. Often flies under the radar while providing respectable satisfaction after consumption.
The same can be said about the Phoenix and their current crop of players. The football is very exciting, despite not always delivering tangible results.
Newcastle Jets – Sea salt
Sea salt is perhaps the most boring flavour. When you first start eating it, it actually tastes quite good but after a while you think to yourself: ‘why was I eating that?’.
The same can be said of the Jets. A promising start to the season generally turns sour, leaving wondering how and why that managed to happen.
Central Coast Mariners – KetchupÂ
This one needs to explanation. The famous sauce bottles of the Central Coast flavours are brought to life by this unique chip variation.
An underrated flavour getting the most from itself despite not being heavily marketed.
Adelaide United – Sweet chilli and sour cream
This flavour is not one which first comes to mind, but is actually very fun. It has some kick to it, much like Adelaide’s attacking front three and especially, Kusini Yengi.
The football on display is also very satisfying to watch, without particularly being the best of the lot.
Western Sydney Wanderers – Cheese and onion
This, right here, is actually a very good flavour which promises a lot. It starts off with a bit of zest too, but the aftertaste is not something that everyone likes.
The same can be said of the Wanderers. The on-field results have never been awful, but after starting off well, too many campaigns have ended in disappointment. A club of their size expects better.
Melbourne City FC – Sour cream and onion
A very smooth flavour that just melts in your mouth but still sits in the shadow of more mainstream variants.
The same can be said of Melbourne City – finally top of the table after years of being outperformed by Victory. The calm sky-blue colour is another obvious area of similarity.
Western United – Lamington
Yes, this flavour actually exists but just like Western United it was all hype and no substance.
The club came into the league on a promise of building a stadium, which is still yet to commence. The same can be said of this chip flavour. It was new, unique, and different but the question has to be asked – what was the purpose of it?
Macarthur FC – Gravy
Another bold, unique flavour but one which makes more sense than lamington. This is an interesting concept which, without generating too much excitement, actually works.
The final product does the job without being special, just like Macarthur’s football. Overall, it is something many people can actually enjoy.
Perth Glory – Hot wings
Playing in the hot Perth conditions draws comparisons to the hot wings flavour without needing much explanation.
By being so far away from the rest of the teams the Glory are also often underrated and do not get the spotlight they deserve. Oh, and their current form is also red hot right now.
