It was Valentino Yuel with the first chance for the Jets in the 14th minute, but the goal was blocked effortlessly by Phoenix keeper Oliver Sail.

With plenty of end-to-end play, both sides were looking for an opportunity to open the scoring.

Another chance for Yuel came in the 22nd minute after a long ball from Olivier Boumal but the ball didn’t quite hit its target as it went straight into the gloves of Sail.

It was the home-side who opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, with Beka Mikeltadze finding the back of the net after an assist from Olivier Boumal.

The Jets continued to outplay their opponents with more chances coming their way late into the first half.

Going into half time, it was the Jets in front 1-0 after a lacklustre start by Phoenix.

With Yuel looking dangerous again in the 48th minute, it was a yellow card to Callan Elliot after pulling him back.

A further opportunity came for Newcastle after the yellow card with Jordan O’Doherty setting up a perfect header for Jordan Elsey which went wide.

The home-side made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute after striker Mikeltadze got his second after an assist from Yuel.

With very few opportunities going Wellington’s way, any chance they got was stopped by the home-side’s Jack Duncan.

The Jets continued their dominance into the 62nd minute with Penha striking hard towards the net but being denied by the crossbar.

The winning streak continued with Dylan Murnane finding the back of the net for the Jets in the 69th minute to make it 3-0 with an assist from Daniel Penha.

The Jets weren’t content leaving it at 3-0, with Penha working his magic to get his first goal in the 80th minute.

At the full-time whistle, it was the Jets walking away victors, keeping the visitors scoreless, to win 4-0.
