Every club has a player with a penchant for finding themselves on the wrong side of the referee’s handbook, whether it be a cynical challenge or a tactical foul, let’s take a look at this season’s most booked players in the A-League Men.
5. Javier Lopez (Adelaide United)
Adelaide United’s Spanish utility Javier Lopez has received a total of five cards this season.
With four yellows and one red card, his spot on this list is more than earned.
The only reason he hasn’t ranked higher is because of his red card against Brisbane Roar in round three which was the culmination of two yellow cards, with the second coming in the 95th minute.
Without this yellow and subsequent red, deep into injury-time, Lopez would only have three bookings to his name.
He is not the only Adelaide player to feature on this list, however.
4. Scott Jamieson (Melbourne City)
The Melbourne City defender and captain has so far accrued six bookings, with all of them being yellow cards.
Jamieson has played 12 games through the 2021/22 campaign meaning he has picked up a booking in one of every two games at a rate of 0.5 per game.
He leads the City squad in bookings at the halfway mark of the season.
If Jamieson continues to pick up a card every other game he will easily top his squad and possibly even this list to finish the season.
Leading by example as captain, even if it’s not quite the cleanest way of doing it.
3. Aleksandar Susnjar (Macarthur FC)
Susnjar is sitting on six bookings for the season.
The Macarthur FC defender has five yellow cards and one red card through his 11 appearances in 2021/22.
Susnjar’s singular red card was awarded for two separate yellow cards against Perth Glory in round 12.
Despite this, he has still been booked at a rate of 0.55 cards per game, making him one of the worst offenders in the league.
2. Jacob Farrell (Central Coast Mariners)
The penultimate player on our list, Farrell has racked up seven bookings this season with all of them being yellow.
The Mariners defender is one yellow card away from a mandatory suspension which occurs after eight offences according to the A-Leagues’ ‘Disciplinary Regulations’.
Having played in 11 matches through the 2021/22 campaign, Farrell is being booked once every 130 minutes.
This is a rate of 0.64 cards per match, the highest in the league.
He is only beaten out by a player who’s seen red, with Farrell yet to be shown a card of that colour.
1. Isaias Sanchez (Adelaide United)
The Reds number 10 is so far at seven bookings for the season with six yellows and a single red card.
He tops the list because of the sheer number of cards, tied first with Farrell, as well as his more serious red card offence.
Having played 11 games, Isaias’ statistics are equal to Farrell’s with a card once every 130 minutes or 0.64 cards per game.
Isaias’ red card against Melbourne Victory in round nine is the key differentiator between the two players.
This makes him the worst offender in the A-League Men so far this season as awarded by the referees and the dirtiest player in the league thus far.
