With the majority of teams still in the running to make finals, the Jets’ upcoming games are vital in order to book their place in the top six.

Matt Jurman, Newcastle captain, says that every match is now a must-win and the team need to be playing at their best.

“The game on Sunday will be a very important one for us,” he said.

“Every game is a final for us now.”

Looking at the two team’s head-to-head, from 49 games played, the Jets are slightly ahead with 20 wins to Brisbane’s 17, and 12 draws. Sunday’s fixture will mark Newcastle’s 50th clash with Brisbane and their 23rd match against the Roar away from home.

From 22 games played up north, Newcastle have secured 13 wins and only four losses, with their last loss in Brisbane dating back to early 2016.

Fan shouldn’t expect a high-scoring game between the two teams. Only two games in the past 14 between the two sides have been decided by more than one goal.

The Jets will be looking to continue their three-game cleansheet streak, going for their fourth in a row, which will break the club’s current record for most consecutive clean sheets.

It won’t be all smooth sailing for Newcastle with a noticeable absence in Daniel Penha for their upcoming match. After receiving a straight red card for an incident in the 92nd minute against Perth Glory, Penha will miss one game after his offence was deemed as ‘serious unsporting conduct’ by the Match Review Panel.

With a win against Brisbane on Sunday, the Jets could very well find themselves in the top six if all goes their way.

The game will be a must-win for both sides. Newcastle will be looking to get themselves into finals contention and Brisbane will be looking to keep themselves in the mix of teams fighting for a finals spot at the end of the regular season.

After a rocky first half of the season, Newcastle seem to be finding their stride and will be looking to continue their upward climb to the finals.
