Nieuwenhof is one of the youngest and newest signings for Western Sydney.

The defensive midfielder made his ALM debut at only 19 and has also already participated in the AFC Champions League. He is looking forward to helping a new Wanderers side to the premiership.

“That’s definitely my aim. I am pushing to make my position and want as many minutes as possible. The main goal this year is to help the team do well, however, I can do that,” Nieuwenhof said.

“I am one of the younger boys in the team. The other young boys and I must push the older boys to perform well. Like every day in and out of training. We must push for the starting spots to create a competitive environment that everyone thrives in.”

“I am going to try and be solid in the midfield and allow the talented players around me like Ninkovic and Romain to do their thing and help us win games.”

The Wanderers have struggled to score goals in recent seasons but Nieuwenhof isn’t worried about that this campaign.

“Many exciting players have been brought in this season,” he said.

“One aspect that Mark focuses on is making us an exciting team that scores goals. I think that is what the fans will get this season.”

According to the defensive midfielder, the new squad is looking to provide a thrilling brand of football and is hopeful of getting fans the result they have been seeking for several years.

“We are going to do our best to win games and potentially be at the top of the table. We want the championship and want to be in the grand final,” he said.

Nieuwenhof said the squad is heading into the new season with a positive mentality and heaps of confidence.

“We’ve had 14 weeks off. We have an entirely fresh squad come in,” he said.

“I think that will work in our favour, we are all gelling well, we are positive.”
