Ruben Zadkovich is hoping to turn Perth Glory’s season around with his side’s next four matches being played on home turf at Macedonia Park.
So far during the Glory’s current campaign the side have played seven out of their opening nine games away from home and currently sit bottom of the A-League Men’s table with two wins, one draw and six losses.
Certainly a season that looks to be forgotten about by the club’s fans. But not all hope may be lost.
Zadkovich’s side is looking to steer the course of the club’s challenging start to the season with a run of four matches at home.
He says being back on WA turf could change the path of the Glory’s turbulent form.
“All the games are worth three points and they are all important, but it is nice for us to be home,” he said.
“It’s something we haven’t had too much of obviously and we are the team that’s played the most away games and then we sit down the bottom of the ladder. So I do think those two things do go hand in hand for us at the moment.
“We’ve got great fans, very loyal members and so far this year we have had two opportunities to play at Macedonia Park and put in two pretty good performances, one win and one draw.”
However, the reality may not be as great as it seems.
The Glory will have to face Western Sydney Wanderers, Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory all in the span of 15 days.
After a long run of away games and now four matches within just over a fortnight, Zadkovich is not too happy.
“It’s not ideal. Let’s not beat around the bush it should be a week apart, one home, one away that’s what it should look like,” he said.
“It would give us a much better opportunity to win games but in the end they just become excuses, it’s not what anyone wants to hear so we just have to try embrace the hardships which we have done really well through this difficult period.”
Although it is a quick turnaround of games, Zadkovich is confident his side can see it through.
“One win can turn your season around. You know you look at a team like Newcastle Jets before they played Adelaide they were 11th and then they won one game and they went into the top six,” he said.
“We are not that far out of the top six if I’m honest two wins can get you back in the frame.
We’ve got a game in hand on a lot of teams that are above us as well.”
Perth will be looking to take advantage of playing on home turf when they play the Wanderers on Friday night at Macedonia Park.
