The real reasons Yoshi chose Melbourne City

-

The messiah has spoken.

After scouting each of the 10 Hyundai A-League clubs and deliberating for months, Yoshi has chosen his team.

The Hyundai A-League and its 10 clubs began the 2016/17 season with the ambition of attracting more younger fans to the game after research revealed AFL had stolen their souls – because ultimately You’ve Gotta Have A Team.

10-year-old Yoshi – the hero of this story and self-obsessed football fan – was among those still lacking a Hyundai A-League team to call his own.

Enter Melbourne City.

Mario Luigi Yoshi travelled nation-wide, shook the hands of eight Hyundai A-League captains and apparently based his decision on four factors that were most important to him: family, team, performance, and fans.

However, after scouring through Yoshi’s rubbish bin and dissecting every inch of his Facebook profile, I have uncovered the real four reasons Yoshi chose Melbourne City:

  1. Sheep are Yoshi’s favourite animal. This makes complete sense as sheep follow the herd, just as Yoshi has jumped on the Melbourne City bandwagon.
  2. Yoshi’s favourite colour is light blue.
  3. When Yoshi visited Melbourne Victory, the rumours are that he stepped inside the boxing ring with Kevin Muscat and was told ‘Last one round with me and we are your team’… sadly, it wasn’t to be.
  4. Melbourne City is the kind of partner you would bring home to your parents. They aren’t loud and boisterous (Wanderers), arrogant (Victory), useless (Mariners), or unimportant (Phoenix)

There you have it, the real factors Mario Luigi (why do I keep doing that?) Yoshi took into deep consideration during the preceding months.

Yoshi declined to comment, however, what we can reveal is he will be at AAMI Park on Friday night, along with the other Melbourne City ‘fans’, cheering on the men in light blue against Adelaide United.
