There’s only one Timmy Cahill

-

A verse dedicated to the one-and-only Tim Cahill

There is one date in history
Millions around Australia do not forget,
December 6th 1979 is no mystery
The birth of Tim Cahill – a star from the outset.

Born in the picturesque seaside Sydney
He grew up playing two sports,
It was rugby league and soccer that made him giddy
The latter being his ultimate choice by all reports.

Fast forward to 1997 when Cahill was 18
He headed for England and debuted for Millwall,
Beginning a career I doubt he would have foreseen
The man of this piece – his love was for football.

2005/06 – A transfer to the Premier League
Signing for Everton – he was integral to their game plan,
Playing at Goodison Park kindled English intrigue
56 goals and 226 appearances later, his name was now superman.

The world cup goal against Japan
Or the screaming volley against The Netherlands,
One cannot forget his International glory
Capturing Australian hearts – the headline story.

Marquee million-dollar man
Cahill has now signed for Melbourne City,
The 178cm tall striker is their strategic plan
To destroy the balance of the finance committee.

Victory fans are bitter
The Northern Terrace has dismembered,
Don’t worry Kevin Muscat – you are a hard hitter
But attempting sh*t tackles is how you’ll be remembered.

Melbourne City – to dream and to dare
The Socceroos legend key to their success,
Kicking goals is the road to silverware
That goal in the Derby still makes me want to undress.

Rivals will say they paid their way
City fans will call it skill,
Forget buying yourself a new Volkswagen
Just jump on board the Tim Cahill bandwagon

Love him,
Hate him,
But there’s only one Timmy Cahill.
