Perth’s glorious run in Newcastle continues

-

Perth Glory extended their 10 game unbeaten run at McDonald Jones Stadium to 11 after beating the Jets 2-0 with goals from Kilkenny and Davidson.

The opening of the game was absurd and set the tone for the first half. The Jets took the kick-off and immediately started an attack down the right hand flank which ended in a clear cut chance for Jair, whose shot did little to challenge Liam Reddy.

Directly following this, Perth launched a counter attack which resulted in a penalty when Glen Moss slid in and brought down Joel Chianese in the box. Neil Kilkenny made no mistake and slotted the penalty down the bottom right on the two minute mark.

Soon after, the Jets came close to equalising when Jair made good contact with a Georgievski cross with a glancing header but was denied by the post.

Perth doubled their lead through a set piece when Glen Moss was unable to secure the ball. The fumble landed in the lap of Jason Davidson who stabbed it into the roof of the net.

Ivan Vujica was withdrawn for Jason Hoffman on the 37th minute to see the Jets revert to a back three of Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Nigel Boogaard and Ben Kantarovski.

This proactive tactical change gave the Jets a greater concentration of numbers further up the pitch and they were able to dominate possession and create more chances in the second half.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, the Jets weren’t able to capitalise on the possession and get back into the game. Perth were defensively robust and able to deny the home team any high quality chances.

The Jets couldn’t claw their way back into the game, and ended up the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline. The hoodoo continues and so does Perth’s run at the top of the table.
