The Football Sack has a proud history of developing talent and helping young writers break into the industry.
As of this moment, our internship program has seen 103 of our writers complete our structured program and land a gig in the sports, media, and marketing industry.
With the 2022/23 A-League Mens and Womens seasons just around the corner, this year will be no different as 11 new, young writers join our ranks.
Brisbane Roar
Liam Cook will be covering Brisbane Roar for The Football Sack this year as he joins The Football Sack from the University of Queensland where he studies a Bachelor of Journalism/Master of Teaching. Dreaming of a career in sports journalism, Liam has represented Queensland in cricket and has experience at Rugby News Australia. We have had four TFS Graduates come from the University of Queensland.
Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers
Two writers will be sharing the coverage of Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers this season: Edith Yankuba and Jasmine Singh. Edith joins us from Western Sydney University where she is studying a Bachelor of Communications and International Studies. Jasmine is studying a Bachelor in International Studies / Media (Communication and Journalism) at University of NSW.
Both writers are incredibly passionate about journalism and storytelling with Edith already working at ABC News. We have had two TFS Graduates from Western Sydney University and one from University of New South Wales.
Macarthur FC
Timothy Gibson will be covering Macarthur FC for The Football Sack this season, joining from the University of Wollongong where he studies a Bachelor of Laws / Journalism.
A lover of all things football, Timothy has written for Football South Coast and Football NSW as well as being a host on multiple football podcasts and a football referee. We have had four TFS graduates come from the University of Wollongong.
Melbourne City
Caydn Foley will be covering Melbourne City and joins us from Swinburne University of Technology where he is studying a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism, Politics, and International Relations.
With significant experience at Channel 31, Caydn has been lead editor for two talk shows: NEMBC Multicultural Football Show and NEMBC All About A-League. Caydn is the first ever Swinburne student to be accepted in The Football Sack Internship Program.
Melbourne Victory
Lauren Hutchinson joins The Football Sack from Monash University where she will cover Melbourne Victory. Studying a Bachelor of Business and Media Communications, Lauren is working towards becoming a broadcast news presenter. We have had nine TFS Graduates from Monash University.
Perth Glory
Perth Glory will once again be covered by two The Football Sack writers this season with Tylah Tully and Alexander Govan both joining from Curtin University. Tylah is studying a double degree in Arts and Commerce, and is working towards a career in broadcast journalism. She has experience with Fremantle Dockers, Carnaby TV, and the ABC.
Alexander is highly motivated to be a sports presenter and is studying a Bachelor of Arts / Journalism. Alexander has experience with ITV in the UK, Fremantle Dockers, and the Western Independent.
We have had five TFS Graduates from Curtin University.
Sydney FC
Neve McGavock joins The Football Sack from the University of Wollongong where she will cover Sydney FC. Studying a double degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, Neve is also passionate about football having played for most of her life and also having been a football referee. We have had four TFS graduates come from the University of Wollongong.
Wellington Phoenix
For the first time in The Football Sack history, Wellington Phoenix will be covered by two writers as Nick Jensen and Joshua Dean join our ranks in New Zealand. Both writers join us from Massey University where they are studying a Bachelor of Communications while Joshua has prior experience with Cricket Wellington and Everything Rugby League. We’ve had a total of three TFS Graduates come from Massey University.
Adelaide United, Canberra United, Newcastle Jets, and Western United
