Macarthur FC stumbled once again in their pursuit of finals football, conceding a stoppage-time equaliser against Western Sydney Wanderers.
It looked like Macarthur had pulled off a spectacular comeback against the Wanderers with Al Hassan Toure scoring in stoppage time to make it 2-1. However, in yet another disappointing twist, the side conceded with little more than a few seconds left in the match, dropping two points.
It’s the latest in a long list of frustrating results for the Bulls this season.
The South-West Sydney club have only earned back-to-back wins once in 2022/23 having won just three games since the turn of the year.
The Bulls sit in 11th going into the final three rounds, still with a slim chance of finishing in a finals position.
Sterjovski said the belief within the squad of playing finals football is still there, and put the lack of wins down to inconsistency caused by various factors.
The former Australian international explained that the injuries suffered by the side have not helped.
Macarthur are without captain Ulises Davila and star attacker Daniel Arzani who are both out for the rest of the season. While seasoned defender Tomislav Uskok missed the match with the Wanderers through illness.
The side only recently saw the return of striker Lachlan Rose who has scored twice in his first two starts since recovering from a broken foot.
“It’s always key moments. I think in most games we do a lot to get a win, but it’s about being consistent,” Sterjovski said.
“If we can put in a performance like we did tonight more consistently and be better in those key moments, I think we’ll have a better chance at winning games.
“You want to put your best team out always. You want players to play with confidence to get a run of games, so that doesn’t make it easy.”
Time is running out for the Bulls with only three games left to play. They face two away trips starting with Newcastle Jets in round twenty-four before returning home for a final-round clash with Wellington Phoenix.
The team are three points away from sixth, with Stejovski believing it will take winning all three games for Macarthur to make the finals.
