“Atmosphere” makes Coopers Stadium an imposing fortress

An upset win over league leaders Central Coast Mariners has given Adelaide United their third home win of the season. This dramatic victory has sent a clear message to the rest of the league; never underestimate the Reds at Coopers Stadium.

Along with a formidable overall record at the ground – Adelaide has won 47.9% of the 198 games they have played at Coopers Stadium – the Reds have won 75% of their home games this season.

Out of Adelaide’s four home games so far, Perth Glory is the only team that has left Coopers Stadium with premiership points.

The biggest struggle teams face when playing United at home is overcoming their passionate fanbase.

Although it has been a COVID affected season, Adelaide supporters have consistently cheered their team over the line.

United has the fourth-highest crowd attendance on average this campaign (7,577 fans) and second-highest overall (30,306 fans).

In South Australia, sport is not a passion – it is a way of life. Reds fans are no exception to that custom and have a reputation for putting their heart and soul into the club.

When asked about what makes it so difficult for opposing teams to play Adelaide at Coopers Stadium, Reds head coach, Carl Veart had a clear response.

“It’s the atmosphere. Our fans are tremendous.” Veart said.

“Even tonight when the boys started to falter a bit, they lifted them and got them back into the game.

That’s why they are the best fans in the league.”

Considering nine of Adelaide’s ten points this season have come at home, rival sides must be prepared to face the fortress at Coopers Stadium.
